There is a new face in the science department this year. Mr. Petrosi is a new chemistry teacher. He was a long term substitute for Mrs. Hausner last year while she was on maternity leave. This year he is back with a permanent position.
Mr. Petrosi said that chemistry was the only thing that actually challenged him in high school. “Math and English weren’t a problem for me,” he admitted, “but chemistry was the only real challenge.” He decided to teach because of a history teacher he had in high school. He thought she was always engaging and interesting, and wanted to teach just like her.
Many students from his class last year had only good things to say about him. Even though he was on a sub for a short time, he was quickly more liked than the actual teacher, who was on leave until June. His relaxed teaching style and fun personality provide students with a welcoming atmosphere. He teaches the rigorous curriculum thoroughly and makes it fun at the same time. Whether it is ionic bonding or stoichiometry, labs are always practical and amusing. That being said, someone can only hear about electrons and Hydrogen so many times in one day.
Mr. Petrosi is off to a great start here at West Milford, and hopefully his first full year here will stay that way.
