Dear Charlotte,
Why can’t Juniors drive to school? As long as we have our licenses it should be fine right?
Sincerely,
Timmy
Dear Timmy,
Well that’s a tricky question. Part of me sympathizes with the members of the Junior class and another part wants to simply say, Senior privileges! Yes, the Senior class would probably favor the latter but in reality, they, too, were juniors, who at one point or another wished to be able to drive to school as well. And why not? The licensed drivers of WMHS deserve the right to drive! Right?
The upside to juniors being able to drive to school would be potential income. The parking passes are already expensive, so why not allow the junior class to pay as well? The school might see it as a potential problem having the juniors drive to school. The junior class is fairly recently licensed, which means they’re more prone to accidents than someone with a year of driving alone is. On the flip side, both classes are still fairly new to driving and the seniors are by no means experts. Another down side is space. The senior parking lot is only so large, there’s barely any room for the licensed part of the junior class. It’s possible to make a new parking lot, but where? Some people argue that there could be some potential parking space by the Board of Education building or by one of the fields.
So I do agree, juniors should be allowed to drive to school, but at this point in time it seems so unlikely of ever changing. Assuming you’re a junior, since this topic seems so dear to you, there’s no point in complaining now. As for the younger grades, it’ll be much more gratifying when you become a senior and do have the privileges open to you, including driving to school.
Love and Rockets,
Charlotte
