This March, selected art classes were offered a creative assignment called the Monster Project. This project is a part of an international movement that began in 2015 that teaches children about the power of their imagination and the fun of collaboration. Before the project makes its way to the high school’s art classes, it begins in the elementary schools. What they are not aware of is that the high school art students recreate the kids’ monsters and bring them to life in various mediums! In previous years, the project was only offered to sculpture students, but now it is being offered to digital arts, AP studio, and the sculpture class. The digital art classes created a 3D-drawing of their assigned monsters while also creating back-ground world scenery for them, while the AP studio and sculpture class created sculptures of the monsters. The art classes received the drawings from two Up-per Greenwood Lake Elementary School classes. The high school student worked on these monsters from the day they received them until April 25th. The exciting part was that on April 28, the art classes gathered up and took the trip to UGL to hand the Kindergarten classes their “brought to life” monsters as gifts. This experience not only fosters creativity but also teaches the children the joy of sharing their artistic talents with others.
