The High School Fencing teams lost eight seniors last season but have many returning faces with plenty of experience. They are coached by Dave Gerold and the team’s captains are Charlie Battle (Sabre), Gianna Buzzelli (Epee), and Ben Otto (Epee).
The High School’s Boys Fencing team have started their winter season off with a record of 4-5. They have victories against Morris Catholic, Butler, Pompton Lakes, and Kinnelon. Senior Gavin Janitz (Epee) has the team’s most individual wins at 16-8, with senior captain Ben Otto, and juniors Tyrese Martin (Foil) and Kevin Docwra (Sabre) close behind at 12 apiece.
They look to bounce back from their loss to Teaneck, hosting rival Lakeland Friday, January 31st for the team’s last match of the season.
Meanwhile, the Girls Fencing team has started off with a 2-7 record. They beat Indian Hills early in the year, and Kinnelon in the team’s last match. Junior Victoria VanTassel (Sabre) has a team high in wins with an outstanding 23-4 record. Junior captain Charlie Battle (Sabre) is second on the team with a record of 16-8.
The girls try to come out with a win in their last match of the season against Holy Angels on February 3rd.
