The 2024 presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump caught the attention of all 50 states. The votes have been tallied and Donald Trump has won the election, tallying 312 electoral votes to Kamala’s 226, securing his spot as the 47th president of America. This makes him the second president, beside Grover Cleveland, to serve two non-consecutive terms.
In his campaign, Trump stated that he will put restrictions on heavily controversial topics such as immigration, guns, and reproductive rights. He strongly believes in securing the southern border between the United States and Mexico, stating that there are many illegal immigrants causing issues throughout the US. Trump has also touched upon gun control, saying he will protect the people’s Second Amendment right to bear arms.
Trump has also talked about increasing taxes and adding a 20% tariff on foreign goods, as well as upping the current tariffs on China all the way to 60%. He believes that increasing tariffs on foreign countries will help promote businesses to place their roots in the US, helping the US economy while also creating more jobs for citizens. He has also spoken about providing merit pay to teachers for contentious matters. Trump has aslo sparked conversations on the climate and enviormnet stating he will authoritize oil drilling by putting a stop on Biden’s investments in green technology.
When looking at his other foreign policies, Trump does not believe in sending further aid to Ukraine as Biden has, but hopes to negotiate peace between the belligerent countries.
Donald Trump has been proactive after the election already securing his cabinet members. Robert F. Kennedy JR., the independent party candidate, has been requested to recognize agencies such as CDC and FDA. Elon Musk was appointed as secretary of cost-cutting, Suise Wiles as chief of staff, Mike Waltz as National Security Advisor, Tom Homan as ‘Border Czar’, Elise Stefanik as United Nations ambassador, Stephan Miller as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, Lee Zeldin as Environmental Protection Agency, and Kristi Noem as the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
