Hopefully you made your way to the Hewitt side of West Milford to make one final visit to Cosmo’s Fresh Market before it closed down on September 29. 

Cosmo’s first opened two years ago in November 2022. Locals who shopped here may have been upset about the store closing because of its excellent quality food and clean, friendly environment.  Another remaining concern is what will take its place now that the store is sitting empty yet again. 

 It is speculated that Cosmo’s closed down due to having a huge spatial footprint for a supermarket when there are not a lot of neighborhoods close to that area. Even though there’s a nearby ShopRite a few minutes away from Cosmos where locals can shop after it closes down, many claim this was also the cause of the store’s demise with another huge store being so nearby.  Cosmo’s likely could not compare with ShopRite’s lower, competitive prices.  

West Milford High School students would like to see a variety of stores take the place of Cosmo’s including a “Barnes and Noble or any book store in general”, “a Dick’s Sporting Goods store or something big [like that] because it’s not like it’s a small store”, or even a Starbucks.  We will just have to wait to see what it ends up being.
