The fall season is the best time of year to sit on your couch while holding a cup of hot chocolate and beginning a mystery or comedic movie. Then the question arises, which movie to watch first? Well, here is a list of 16 favorite movies/shows people love to watch in fall.
- “Gilmore Girls”– This is a show that follows the day-to-day life of Rory and her mother, Lorelai Gilmore. It covers Rory’s long journey of self-discovery from high school to college and beyond that point. This includes her many relationships as well as her mother’s relationships and takes you on a ride of emotions and adventures. Its autumn aesthetic of leaves changing colors and comfy sweaters makes it the perfect show to begin your fall movie/show marathon too.
- “Dead Poets Society”– Mr. Keating is a new teacher at an all-boys boarding school who teaches in an unorthodox manner. After one of his students takes his own life, the blame is put on Mr. Keating and his controversial teaching methods, because of that, Mr. Keating is fired from the school, but there is definitely more to the story than that.
- “Beetlejuice”– A loving couple moves into a new house, but they tragically pass away and their souls remain trapped there. Later, a new family moves in, and the daughter Lydia, is trying to help the souls move on by calling upon Beetlejuice, a rather humorous but crass and malicious spirit. The plan goes wrong in several hilarious ways.
- “Edward Scissorhands”– In this Tim Burton classic, a scientist creates most of a human but passes away before he can finish, leaving Edward with outcast hands. He lives most of his life hidden away in the old mansion up the hill. A saleswoman goes to the mansion in hopes of attaining a potential buyer when she encounters Edward and feels sorry for him, so she decides to take him home with her. There Edward meets Kim and falls madly in love with her, but will this ever be a good match for either of them?
- “The Twilight Saga”– Bella moves in with her dad in a town called Forks, where she meets Edward Cullen. She learns a huge secret about Edward and his family. In the end, will she choose to be with him? Or will she end up with her childhood best friend, Jacob?
- “The Vampire Diaries”– People start disappearing in Mystic Falls, and the town council grows wary of vampires returning back to the town. The Salvatore brothers, who have previously lived in Mystic Falls a century ago, move back into town where they happen to meet Elena Gilbert, the doppelganger of Katherine Pierce.
- “Pretty Little Liars”- In this series, Allison mysteriously disappears and as the investigation is ongoing, her friends start receiving personal messages/threats from an unknown messenger who calls him/herself “A”. The friend group is forced to begin its own investigation to unravel A’s identity and save their secrets from being exposed.
- “Jennifer’s Body”– Jennifer was a sacrifice for a band who longed for fame, but since she wasn’t fit for the sacrifice, Jennifer was possessed. Jennifer soon learned that in order to gain energy she had to consume humans. Her friend had a difficult choice to make, leading her to inherit the demon, causing all kinds of drama in this comedy horror film.
- “The Craft”– Sarah moves to a new high school where she grows aware of her powers. She gets involved with a trio of mischievous witches and it’s up to Sarah to determine whether she wants to use her newfound gifts with good or bad intentions.
- “Sleepy Hollow”– Ichabod Crane is sent to investigate a series of murders in the town of Sleepy Hollow. There he meets Katrina Van Tassel, daughter of the owner of the house where Crane is boarding, and discovers that the murders were on account of the headless horseman. Crane falls in love with Van Tassel and uncovers a horrible family secret that is connected to the headless mercenary who rides on his black horse.
- “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”– Another Tim Burton masterpiece, this movie is about Judge Turpin who frames a London barber for murder because he wants the barber’s wife for himself. After about 15 years, the barber returns as Sweeny Todd seeking revenge on Judge Turpin.
- “Coraline”– This movie finds a young Coraline and her family moving into a new house in what she considers a boring new neighborhood. While exploring, Coraline discovers a secret door which transports her to an alternate world that resembles the real world, but is strangely “perfect”. As Coraline is settling into this alternate universe her “other” mother tries to prevent her from leaving. Coraline is forced to use all her wit to successfully flee back to her real family.
- “The Addams Family”– In this grim supernatural comedy film based on the 1960s television show, Fester, Gomez Addams’s missing brother, arrives at the Addams house. Suspicions arise whether he is the real Fester or not. With help from a lawyer, Fester is able to kick out the Addams family from their house. Realizing Fester’s plan, Gomez is forced to challenge his “brother” and dark hilarity ensues.
- “Corpse Bride”– In this animated fantasy film, Victor was practicing his wedding vows in the forest when he placed the ring on a branch. That branch turned out to be the hand of Emily, a girl who was murdered on her wedding day awaiting her husband’s return. Thinking Victor would now become her husband, Emily dragged him to the land of the dead. He has to find his way back before Victoria, his soon-to-be wife, has to marry someone else.
- “Hocus Pocus”– This cult classic features Max who moves to Salem, Massachusetts, a town where everyone believes in witches, zombies, and other creatures of the night. While he’s out trick-or-treating with his sister, Dani, they run into Allison, Max’s crush. That night they find themselves in the Sanderson sister’s house where Max lights the black candle, accidentally awakening the Sanderson sisters who were witches executed in the 17th century. Now he, his sister and their friends all have to figure out how to cast spells, break curses, and avoid being poisoned by potions in this comedy film.
- “Casper”– This movie features James Harvey and his daughter, Kat, who move into a mansion in Maine to communicate with the four ghosts that live there. Casper, the youngest and friendliest ghost, falls for Kat. On Halloween night, Kat volunteers to throw a party at the mansion. At this party, Casper is given a chance to transform into a human for the night, and ends up stealing a kiss from Kat. There is some double-crossing done though as Carrigen Crittenden who has inherited the mansion is trying to get rid of them all.
