With spring coming to an end, and summer quickly approaching, not only does this mean vacation and sun, but it also means spring cleaning! Spring cleaning means a fresh start for the next season, and you don’t need to make big changes in your home to notice a difference; small tidy-ups and decluttering can mean a lot.
First, let’s start with the wardrobe. My personal rule is that if you find clothes that you haven’t worn in at least one year, you should probably get rid of them (this rule is up to your preference). Donating these items would be helpful to you to clean out and to others to wear your gently used, still in good condition clothing. Naturally, be sure to try on some of your clothes to make sure they still fit you! We don’t want to keep clothes that aren’t our size.
Afterward, you’ll need to know how to make proper use of your closet and dresser. Rolling your clothes to put into drawers is an efficient way to save space, but this method also helps reduce wrinkles in your clothes. I roll my pants and shorts and leave them in different drawers. When organizing your closet, you can sort your clothes by physical size, length of the sleeves, whether it’s cropped or long, and so on. In addition, you could group your clothes by formality or by color.
Organizing your clothes is one of the first things that comes to mind when someone brings up spring cleaning. That and other activities such as vacuuming, cleaning out the pantry, and sifting through old, packed-away belongings. Yet, there are other things that need cleaning, things that are often neglected in the home. For example, over years of grimy hands brushing against the panes or dogs barking spit at foraging squirrels; windows need a good disinfecting every once in a while, too, as do walls, baseboards, and moldings around doors. Even the shoes that have been taken back and forth thousands of times to school, work, and sports practices could always use a quick scrubbing.
Every home is different so surely there will be plenty of other places to clean like maybe the deck, a garden, or a movie room. Cleaning isn’t an activity restricted to only one season; remember to keep yourself organized and neat every time of year! Pop on some music or a podcast and you’ll get the job done in no time. Happy cleaning!
