We all know that the internet, TV Shows, and movies are a big part of our lives. People love to have the ability to watch their favorite shows and movies. They also love when new seasons of their favorite shows come out. So when the Screen Actors Guild strike started, also known as the SAG strike, people were upset because not as many movies and TV shows were being released. Countless movies and shows were delayed or even canceled because no one was available to write them.
The SAG strike lasted from a total of 118 days, from July 14th to November 9th in 2023. The strike started because actors and other members of the SAG-AFTRA community were fighting for better pay, working conditions, and concern over artificial intelligence exploiting actors’ likenesses without fair compensation. The SAG strike took place mainly in Los Angeles, but people all over the world were outraged.
The rules for the SAG strike were as follows:
- Stopping all work on and behind the camera.
- Members were not allowed to promote any of the projects that they completed. Meaning, that they could not talk about them in the form of interviews to the press, movie premieres, festivals, fan expositions, podcasts, and/or social media.
- Members can, however, participate in productions by the network television code, a network that is not part of the SAG strike. Productions that actors can be a part of are reality shows, talk shows, competition shows, game shows, variety shows, and special events.
