The most unpredictable season in the NFL is wrapping up. It’s championship weekend which means a trip to Super Bowl 58 is on the line. With the Kansas City Chiefs facing the number one seed Baltimore Ravens, the Detroit Lions will go to Santa Clara to see the San Francisco 49ers. Winners will head to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.
The Detroit Lions have been a force to be reckoned with in this year’s playoffs. Coach Dan Campbell has the team rolling. The Lions, who haven’t won a playoff game since 1992, had a big win vs the Los Angeles Rams. After beating LA, the Lions next faced off against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Lions answered again, winning 31-23 in front of the roaring Detroit crowd. With the dynamic duos of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs at running back, wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and rookie phenom Sam LaPorta at tight end, Jared Goff has brought the Lions to the NFC Championship game.
The Lions have never been to a Super Bowl in all the years since its inception in 1967. Sunday is their chance to make their first ever Super Bowl.
The #1 seeded San Francisco 49ers stand in the way of Detroit’s Super Bowl. With a star studded roster, The Niners have been looked at as the most complete team in football. With what is considered the league’s best defense along with an offense consisting of Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Brock Purdy, the Detroit defense will have their hands full. The 49ers had a first round bye in this years playoffs. Their most recent game was a close 24-21 win vs the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round.
However, the 49ers have struggled in the NFC Championship game. San Francisco has made the Championship game 3 out of the last 4 seasons with just one win to show. It’s been a hurdle that coach Kyle Shanahan’s team hasn’t been able to clear. The Niners have a record of 7-11 in the title game.
Whoever takes this game will face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Baltimore Ravens. It will be interesting to see who will represent each conference in the Super Bowl. Whether it’s Coach Shanahan’s 49ers, or Dan Campbell’s Lions, the game starts at 6:30 in San Francisco.
