Throughout the year there are many sales around different holidays and occasions, but is it too much? Stores often have Halloween decor and candy out in August. Christmas decorations sometimes are out at the end of October before Halloween has even passed. School supplies are out in July, and there are also commercials for school supplies out during that time as well. But why is that? Why do shops put things out and call it seasonal when it’s not really seasonal?
Some reasons why stores may put merchandise out earlier is because they want to clear out the inventory. Some stores may have things from the previous year they want to get rid of to make more room for new things that are popular that year. Stores may also put items out for a certain holiday early to get people in the mood and thinking about that particular holiday. In terms of Christmas, having the decorations out will most likely get people thinking about Christmas shopping, and therefore will get people to purchase more from that store.
A reason why stores have school supplies out in August and other things is because of sales tax holidays. Sales tax holidays occur in the summer when customers want to buy things, like big items such as Cromebooks and other school supplies, they are cheaper because customers don’t have to pay tax. The holidays start in early August and go until early September. However, stores will put school supplies out in July as well, but most people don’t like this and most will not even acknowledge that school supplies are out.
But while most people may not like these types of sales and think they are too early, there are some sales that people like, such as Black Friday. Black Friday always occurs the day after Thanksgiving. Stores around the world participate in this sale. People love this sale because practically everything is discounted and it’s great to start Christmas shopping. The sales continue all weekend, with Small Business Saturday, again on Cyber Monday, more on Giving Tuesday, and so on. Is it even really a special sale any more if EVERY day is a sale? It is a little overdone if you ask me.
When it comes to seasonal shopping it really depends on the store or sale. People may put things out early or late. It really depends on the person if they like it or not. Sales can be great; just make sure you are checking the prices and watching trends so you can snag a great deal at the best price of the year!
