To many people around the world the Christmas season is the most wonderful time of the year including the lights, the decorations, and, one of the most important- the movies. Christmas movies are loved and even watched when it may not even be the Christmas season. There are hundreds of different Christmas movies out there and people have many different favorites, of course begging the question, what Christmas movie is the best? To me, it’s hard to narrow it down to a favorite but I have a few. Most notably, Charles M. Schulz’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, John Hughes’ “Home Alone”, Jon Favreau’s “Elf”.
Jon Favreau’s “Elf” is an all time favorite of mine because it provides comedy and classic lines from the movie that people will never forget. With clever writing and great acting it all comes together as a movie that all ages can enjoy. Will Ferell plays Buddy and is one of the best actors ever. He makes this movie so enjoyable and if someone else played his role, this movie would not be the same. There are tons of scenes that will have viewers laughing, whether it’s Buddy chugging a whole liter of soda or his spaghetti meal, it’s all hilarious.
The film has many famous quotable lines in it. One of which is when Buddy says, “I’m singing and I’m in a store and I’m singing!” With Will Ferell just being himself, he added a hilarious element to this film, and did a great job, which is why it’s one of my favorites.
Charles M. Schulz’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is a classic for all ages and is loved around the world by many. The soundtrack to the movie is also well known and even played on peoples Christmas playlists. It is a movie that is almost 60 years old and yet it is a favorite for many people around the world. Charlie Brown didn’t love Christmas and he didn’t want anything to do with it. Then Linus explains to him what the true meaning of Christmas is all about and everyone’s happy. Everyone decorates the tree and Charlie Brown realizes what the Christmas spirit is. This movie is timeless and is one that I will one day show my kids.
John Hughes “Home Alone” is a movie that everyone has heard of. Whether it’s Kevin outsmarting Marv and Harry, or him just saying funny lines, it’s great. Kevin was left home alone by his family when they were supposed to go to France for the holidays and Kevin was accidentally left behind. They didn’t realize what had happened until his mother sat back on the plane and screamed, “KEVIN!”
Meanwhile, Kevin was just at home living his best life until Marv and Harry tried to break in. Once they did, Kevin had traps set and was just smarter than they are, every time, until the end when they thought they actually grabbed Kevin. He was saved when the neighbor across the street came over and whacked Harry in the head with a shovel.
These are just some of my favorite Christmas movies, all are which movies I grew up watching and of which I have so many memories. These are movies I often watch again during the holiday season to remember what the Christmas spirit is all about. I recommend these movies as ones to watch this holiday season. Many people could disagree, saying that they have their own Christmas favorites to watch during the season, which is great. The more the merrier! What are your favorites?
