The West Milford Highlanders girls varsity soccer team, under the guidance of Head Coach Nicole Gwinnett, is navigating a challenging season in the Big-North-Independence League. With a record of 5-12, the team is battling to find its footing on offense and improve its standing in the league. The Highlanders continue to train rigorously, demonstrating unyielding Highlander spirit despite the adversities faced on the field.
In their recent encounters, the West Milford Highlanders girl’s varsity soccer team met Mahwah on the Highlanders Senior Night. The team fought vigorously in double overtime thrillers as they lost 2-1. The lone goal came from senior Captain Olivia Brijbag, who shot a free kick from the Mahwah 45-yard line.
The Highlanders also faced off against Wayne Hills, who they previously faced in September, battling strenuously with a 1-0 loss. They looked to get a big win against them last Thursday and make their push to make the playoffs, but they fell short.
They will lose six senior starters this year with four of them playing defense, and will look to rebuild that side of the ball for next year. Congrats to those graduating in June and thanks for all you’ve done for the program.
