There is a deadly war taking place between Israel and Hamas, which is getting a lot of focus as it is transpiring. The war that is still happening is becoming more concerning for the rest of the country, even America. As the crisis of the war worsens, group leaders and high ranking members of their countries are coming together and discussing what to do. Here are the latest updates on the war:
November 3 around noon there were dozens of casualties after an incident near Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, according to multiple videos from the scene and the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza. The cause was not immediately clear. Multiple videos from the scene showed at least a dozen bloodied casualties strewn across the ground near an ambulance. There appeared to be some shrapnel damage to at least one of the cars on the scene. CNN geolocated the videos to the edge of a compound that included the hospital. There was, at that point, no video evidence of any crater from a munition. A spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, who was at the hospital, said that Israel was responsible for the attack. Dr. Ashraf Al-Qidra said that authorities had organized a medical convoy from the hospital traveling to the Rafah border crossing, and informed the International Committee of the Red Cross about the move. “When the ambulances moved towards the south, the occupation (Israel) targeted the ambulances in multiple locations, including on the gate of Al-Shifa medical compound,” he said. “The Israeli occupation intentionally targeted those ambulances.”
Monday morning November 6, the death toll in Gaza surpassed 10,000, Hamas controlled Health Ministry stated this morning. The number of Palestinians killed in Gaza since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th surpassed 10,000 people. Ashraf Al Qudra, spokesperson for the ministry, said 10,022 Palestinians in the enclave had been killed by Israel strikes, including 4,104 children, 2,641 women and 611 elderly people. Those numbers suggest about three-quarters of the dead were from vulnerable populations. In addition to these numbers the ministry reported another 25,408 people have been injured.
Wednesday, November 8, in the afternoon, a human rights watch called for investigation of an attack on an ambulance outside Gaza’s hospital as a “possible war crime”. The Israel strike on November 3rd targeting the hospital was apparently unlawful. The Israel Defense Forces said it had targeted the ambulance because it was being used by Hamas, “An IDF aircraft struck an ambulance that was identified by forces as being used by a Hamas terrorist cell in close proximity to their position in the battle zone”.(https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-11-03-23/index.html). Earlier that morning Italy sent a hospital ship to the Gaza coast, “the defense minister says. Italy is sending a navy ship equipped with a hospital to Gaza, to help treat victims of the conflict, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said that Wednesday. The ship called the “Vulcano” left from an unnamed Italian port on Wednesday with 170 staff, including 30 people trained for medical emergencies. The minister also announced that a field hospital will be brought directly to Gaza in agreement with the Palestinians“ (https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-11-03-23/index.html).
Friday November 17, Families of hostages marched along the highway to Jerusalem, demanding the government to ensure the return of loved ones. “Families of those missing and kidnapped by Hamas during the October 7 attack are marching from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Friday, demanding that the government guarantees hostages are returned safely. A large crowd is walking along a highway toward Jerusalem, according to Reuters video, with some people holding signs of pictures of missing people captioned ‘Bring them home now.’” One of the participants in the march, Shelly Shem Tov, told CNN that Hamas abducted her son. She said the march had started three days ago in Tel Aviv and that the group was on the way to Jerusalem to demand that the government “bring our families back home safely and alive” (https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-11-17-23/index.html).
“This is the situation. We are 42 days from October 7. We don’t know what about our families. I don’t know (anything) about my son, if he is OK,” she said. “I know that he was kidnapped by Hamas, and from that day I don’t know anything about him…It’s a nightmare. Forty-two days of nightmare,” she added. Shem Tov said that she has heard “nothing” from the Israeli government since it told her that Hamas had kidnapped her son.The Israel Defense Forces said on Friday that the military’s official estimate of hostages being held in Gaza is 237. The IDF previously said that the number fluctuated based on updated intelligence. A senior US official familiar with the talks told CNN on Tuesday that Israel and Hamas were moving closer to a deal to secure the release of hostages taken during the Hamas attacks on Israel in exchange for a sustained, days-long pause in fighting. The official stressed that while the parties have inched closer to striking a deal, the talks remained volatile and could still break down, saying that “it’s closer but it’s not done” (https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-11-17-23/index.html).
Monday November 27, Families of hostages expected to be released by Hamas today have been notified, the prime minister’s office said. “The families of the latest group of hostages expected to be released by Hamas have been notified, the Israeli prime minister’s office said on Monday. Earlier today, they have stated that Israel has received a list of hostages expected to be released on Monday by Hamas and “discussions are underway” about it” (https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-11-27-23/index.html).
This war could get even more serious and more concerning soon. As it looks like there are no signs of stopping, it seems other countries including the United States might have to step in to end this war. This is important news and is relevant for teenagers as there could be a reinstitution of the military draft if it gets serious enough to that point.
