It is the perfect mix of mystery, comedy, slasher, and thriller. It combines both Happy Death Day and Back to the Future. “Totally Killer” has something to keep everyone interested and engaged. It features time travel for those who love science, slasher for those who love to be on their feet, and comedy to keep things light when needed.
On October 27, 29, and 31, 1987, three teenage girls were murdered by the Sweet 16 Killer. Tiffany Clark (Liana Liberato), Marisa Song (Stephi Chin Salvo), and Heather Hernandez (Anna Diaz) were stabbed to death 16 times on their 16th birthday, and the killer was never caught.
36 years later, 17-year-old Jamie Hughes (Kiernan Shipka) attends a rock concert with her best friend Amelia (Kelcey Mawema). Jamie’s mother, Pam Hughes (Julia Bowen), was friends with the three murdered girls and is extremely overprotective of her. Despite her protests, Jamie still has her father, Blake Hughes (Lochlyn Munro), drive, leaving her mother home alone. While at the concert, Pam is attacked by the killer in her own home. She puts up a good fight but ultimately is stabbed to death by the killer. While grieving her mother’s death, Jamie decides to help Amelia finish her time machine for the science fair. At the science fair, Jamie is attacked by the Sweet 16 Killer and hides in Amelia’s time machine. Shockingly, the time machine works and sends her back to 1987.
Jamie plans to stop the Sweet 16 Killers’ first kills to save her mom in the future. She befriends her mom, Pam Miller (Olivia Holt), and tries to stop the murders. This proves difficult, however, because her traveling back in time is only changing the timeline of the kills, not preventing them. She also accidentally manipulates young Pam and Blake’s relationship (Charlie Gillespie). Each time Jamie tries to stop a kill, she realizes she is changing the timeline of the deaths or who died, but she is not preventing the murders ultimately.
Soon, Jamie discovers that her mom’s friend group, the Mollies, made many enemies because they bullied more than half the school. That increases Jamie’s suspect list exponentially. She also befriends Amelia’s mother, Lauren Creston (Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson), who initially worked on the time machine. They work together to get the time machine running again and send Jamie home before she is trapped in 1987.
In the present day, Amelia is trying to fix her time machine and get Jamie back. She is sought out by Chris Dubasage (Jonathan Potts), who has devoted his entire life to the Sweet 16 Killer. Chris realizes that simple details about the murder case are mysteriously changing and inconsistent with past reports. He teams up with Amelia to fix the time machine in their timeline.
