Highlanders Win in Walk-off Fashion
The West Milford Highlanders took down conference rival Fairlawn on a scorching hot Monday afternoon at “The Ray”. Brandon Scrimenti toed the rubber for the Highlanders and he went the distance. Scrimmy went seven innings allowing ten hits just three earned runs (four runs total) with four strikeouts. He’s been the Highlander’s best throughout the year on the mound.
The Highlanders jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when Bryant Carrion hit a double down the left field line driving in two runs. Then Chris Timmins would hit a sac fly to give the Highlanders a 3-1 lead.
Fairlawn would fight back though to take the lead in the 4th making it a 4-3 ballgame. Scrimenti continued to push through the late innings to keep the Clippers in check. In the bottom of the 6th the Highlanders still trailed 4-3 when Ryan Lombardi doubled into left field collecting his first extra base hit of his varsity career. Then two batters later Jake Schwarzlow hit a single into right field scoring Lombardi to tie the game up at four.
The game remained tied going into the bottom of the 7th. Timmins came up with nobody on and two outs in the inning; he would single to left field keeping the inning alive. Charles Cimmino would also single, putting runners at first and second for Lombardi. The Clippers made a pitching change and decided intentionally to walk Lombardi which would leave it up to Will Craten. Craten took a 3-2 fastball outside for ball 4 and the Highlanders captured their 3rd win on the season via a walk off walk.
Coach Pevny was very proud of his team’s performance and hopes to continue the success into the last few games of the season.
