Argentina takes down France in penalty kicks!

After the month long World Cup Tournament that took place in Qatar, Argentina is returning home as champions after defeating the defending champs from France. The game was tied at 3 in what may be considered one of the greatest World Cup games in the history of the World Cup.  In the end, Argentina would prevail and take the win 4-2 in penalty kicks.

World-renowned superstar soccer player Lionel Messi gets his first ever World Cup win, adding another trophy to his already large collection. Messi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, scoring on a penalty kick. This continued his hot streak, as Messi scored in every game during the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Argentina would get on the board again to extend their lead 2-0 on a goal from Angel Di Maria in the 36th minute. It was a beautiful goal and Argentina was feeling confident taking a 2-0 lead into the half. They thought they had the game won with only 12 minutes left in regulation and the clock ticking for France to get on the board.

In the 80th minute France was given a chance to score. Argentina would commit a penalty in the box. Kylian Mbappé would convert on the penalty kick making it a 2-1 game,  giving France a hope to get back in the game. 

Then just a minute later, Mbappé would find the back of the net again in the 81st minute tying the game up at 2. Argentina was stunned with a blown lead in the last 12 minutes. France fans rejoiced around the world. The game would go into eight minutes of extra time where both teams had many chances to score. 

The game would head to overtime when Lionel Messi would score his 2nd goal of the game in the 108 minute. Argentina once again believed they had the game won, but again, just when the world thought Argentina would win the World Cup, a handball in the box would give France another chance at a penalty kick. Mbappé would score his third goal of the game, He became the second player ever to score a hat trick in the World Cup final.

The game would be sent to penalty kicks when the teams were tied at 3. France would send Mbappé to shoot first and he made his shot. Argentina’s Lionel Messi would also make his shot. Tied at 1, France would miss their next 2 shots while Argentina would make both, giving Argentina a 3-1 lead. It was do or die for France. One miss and it would be all over. Randal Kolo Muani, with the game on the line, converted on his penalty kick keeping France alive. 

Gonzalo Montiel would come to the line for Argentina with a chance to end the game. The French Goalie would dive right and Montiel would sink the shot into the left corner of the net crowning Argentina as the 2022 FIFA World Cup Champions. 

The next World Cup is set to take place in 2026 in 3 North American countries, the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
