Yankees shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa celebrates with Harrison Bader after defeating the Cleveland Guardians 4-1

The New York Yankees have taken a 1-0 lead in the American League Divisional Series over the Cleveland Guardians. Gerrit Cole was the game one starter for the Yankees and he delivered Tuesday Night. Cole would go six and a third, while striking out eight. He allowed four hits and just one run. The Guardians were threatening in the 3rd inning when Steven Kwan broke the scoreless tie with a solo homerun into the right field seats. The Guardians would load the bases with one man out. The Yankees had the infield in when Oscar Gonzalez grounded into a force out at home. Then the next batter Andres Gimenez would strike out with the bases loaded to end the inning. Cole and the crowd were hyped up!

The Yankees still trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Harrison Bader sent one over the left field wall to tie the game. It was Bader’s first home run as a Yankee. Later on in the game, in the top of the 4th Isiah Kiner-Falefa (IKF) singled to right and reached third on an error by Guardians right fielder Oscar Gonzalez. Jose Trevino would hit a sac fly scoring IKF to give theYankees the lead.

Then in the 6th Anthony Rizzo crushed a two run homerun to right field, that would make it a 4-1 ball game! The Yankees know how to play in October. The Yankees bullpen would lock down the rest of the game with the Yankees closer Clay Holmes recording the final two outs, securing the victory for the Yankees.

The Yankees have All-Star pitcher Nestor Cortes set to start in tomorrow afternoon’s game, due to the postponement today, with first pitch set at 1:07pm.  Cortes will be facing off against the Guardians Ace Shane Bieber. New York looks to take a two to zero game lead before they head out to Cleveland.
