Ordering up a secret special

You walk in through the door, stare up at the brightly lit menu and before you know it, you’ve been there for 20 minutes with no idea what to order. We all know that sometimes the menu at our favorite fast food places sometimes leaves us wanting something new and exciting. This is where secret menus come in handy, although the irony is, that as they become more popular, they are no longer secret. Be that as it may, not many people know about these hidden menu items. Ask someone over thirty and you’ll probably be met with a confused look, however hard core fans and foodies alike will be “all in”.
According to Secretmenus.com, the concept of a “secret menu” has been gaining popularity within the past decade. Five Guys will pretty much throw any dish out of the kitchen as long as someone asks for it. A prime example is their “Double Grilled Cheeseburger”, which is a single cheeseburger patty in between two grilled cheeses on inside out buns. Although Five Guys does you the favor of creating the burger for you, other places like McDonald’s simply give you the resources to create it yourself.
Of course if you’d prefer something with a little more variety from McDonald’s then you’re in luck. McDonald’s just so happens to offer an artery-clogging, triple-threat called the “Land, Se,a and Air Burger”. If dying of a heart attack in under two hours is your goal, then order one Big Mac, one Filet-o-Fish, and one McChicken. Then, just ditch two of the buns and stack everything up high.
Before I unearth this next one, I’d like to apologize to Julia Child for the official death of the word “crepe”. To make the McCrepe, you need to order two pancakes and a nice parfait, then stuff the parfait in the pancakes like it’s a breakfast garbage pile.
If you are feeling thirsty and adventurous maybe take a drive to Dunkin’, where they offer tons of fun secret coffees. Maybe you can try the “chocolate covered raspberry hot chocolate” which is a hot chocolate with a pump of raspberry syrup. Or, you could give the “Snickers Coffee” a shot. It’s simply an iced coffee with hazelnut and a caramel swirl.
If you are crazy or brave enough to eat any of these items yourself, then here is just one piece of advice. Not everyone will know what you’re talking about. Knowing just the name is only a part of ordering. Knowing the recipe is important, too, since unlike Five Guys, not all places assemble the secret menu items. However this doesn’t necessarily have to be a down side. Creating your own secret menu items can be part of the fun and, who knows, maybe it will even make an entry into the official secret menu.
