Here’s a sneak peek at some upcoming blockbusters!

One movie everyone’s looking forward to is “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker”. Anyone who’s seen either the trailer or the poster knows about the return of Darth Sidious, the emperor from the original “Star Wars” trilogy. While having an actual villain in a sequel movie for once will be refreshing (Snoke died about as inexplicably as he lived) it might not be enough. One of the big problems for the “Star Wars” franchise is how it plans to answer certain questions brought up by the new movies, like “where did Snoke come from?” Or “Why haven’t we seen anything of the Knights of Ren, Padawans who joined Kylo Ren he betrayed Luke?”
The cast seems relatively similar to the previous movies, but the movie will definitely feature some new characters like Zori Bliss, a bounty hunter who is an old friend of Poe.
Another trend for upcoming movies is adaptations of hit Broadway musicals, in an attempt to bring them to a wider audience. One such movie is an upcoming adaptation of “Wicked”. The movie will be hard pressed to live up to the play, one of the longest running in Broadway history, especially when you consider how many other “Wizard of Oz”– spin offs have bombed, liked “Oz the Great and Powerful”, and “Return to Oz”.
Another Broadway play being adapted into a movie is “Cats’. I personally am interested in the movie as I have always wanted to see it, so I hope it is done justice. While we don’t know who will star in “Wicked”, “Cats” features big names like Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, and Ian McKellen.
Another long awaited sequel is Disney’s “Frozen 2”. My opinion of the first movie was that it was mediocre, but granted I wasn’t exactly its target audience. However, after seeing the sequel’s trailers, I believe the movie is going to be a success. While the comedy seems about as subpar as the previous movie, the action scenes seem more intense and numerous.
Considering every Disney movie has a twist evil villain, I predict that one of the movie’s new characters will most likely secretly be evil. If I had to bet, my money is on the newly introduced Lieutenant Matthias, but it could just as easily be an as of yet unheard of character.
