Baseball Team Advances

The West Milford High School Varsity Baseball Team’s season was surely an exciting ride. Led by coaches Jordan and Ryerson, the team would have a successful season. Consisting of seven seniors: Cal Egan, Nick Szuszkowski, Zack Licursi, JD Panicucci, James Morrell, Ray Vecchiarelli and Kyle Lepore, the Highlanders showed tremendous heart and determination throughout the season that carried them into the county tournament. The team would advance all the way to the county semi-finals after making the finals in the previous season. There, they would face the Passaic County Technical Institute Bulldogs in hopes of going  against Pompton Lakes in the county finals.  In an extra inning battle, the Highlanders’ season would unjustly come to an end due to a poor call by the home plate umpire.  A foul ball call, which should have ruled the play dead, became a blunder made by the umpires, which would ultimately hurt the team. Still, this was an extremely productive season by a team filled with talent from top to bottom. The Highlander  Baseball program will be exciting to watch in upcoming seasons as well. Good luck to all seniors!
