Dreams really do come true in Interact Club’s Cinderella Project
While snow is currently blanketing the town of West Milford, the Interact Club is looking ahead to the spring prom season. Juniors and Seniors are eagerly awaiting the excitement of buying dresses, picking corsages, or planning a weekend trip down to the shore. While prom is a staple of high school culture in the United States, it comes with a huge price tag to go along with it. West Milford High School’s Interact Club has this in mind as they plan the 2016 Cinderella Project.
Held every year by the dedicated volunteers in our school, the Cinderella Project began as a way to help students who need financial assistance attend prom for an affordable price. The Interact students will be accepting a wide variety of dresses from semi-formal dresses, cocktail dresses, even summer dresses. Any type of gown or dress that would be appropriate for a formal or semi-formal event is welcome. Dresses donated by the community and student body will be collected in the guidance office, GSC Fitness at 1554 Union Valley Road, and Abby’s Sew Right on Greenwood Lake Turnpike. These lightly-worn dresses will then be sold for a discounted price and the money raised will go to help low-income families pay for their teen’s prom bids.
The event will be held in the high school’s lower media center on February 20 from 10:30a.m. to 5 p.m. All students are welcome to donate or to shop for new dresses, and may be surprised at some of the beautiful gowns they find that may be perfect for them.
