Poetry Slam draws a crowd

This winter, Highlander’s from all different grades gathered to share their love of poetry, literature, music, and all other artsy things. This year was the third seasonal Poetry Slam. Compared to last year’s turnout, this one was astounding. With a total arranging from around fifty to sixty people! A total of twenty performers signed up, and afterwards a number of people came up and performed another piece of work, sang, and others from the audience came up as well. A wide range of performances were done, including two phenomenal acoustic pieces, many heart wrenching poems read, and some comedy was had as well! The event was held from seven to nine, and included snacks and coffee! The event was arranged by two teacher, Mrs. Petrosillo and Mrs. Giroux. And to boot, it was raining and foggy outside, the perfect artsy, emotional weather! As well the Poetry Slam, there was also the Poetry Out Loud competition. Two competitors, Emily Perry and Becca Kronyak. In fact, last year they worked together to read a team poem, but on that night they were competing against one another! The winner was declared Emily Perry, and will be moving on to States. Because of the turnout of the Winter Slam, you can expect to see these again and again. The next is slated to happen in the Spring. Be sure to attend, as it is truly an enjoyable
