It’s the newest Internet phenomenon. Overnight the school hallways exploded with controversy over a rather ugly sheath style dress with layered lacy tiers and a matching jacket. Originally posted on Tumblr by Scottish musician 21-year-old Caitlyn McNeill, the poorly lit photo has spread like wildfire across various forms of social media. Classrooms are filled with heated arguments over this $77 frock hanging on the rack in the store. Girls in classes were threatening to rip one another’s ovaries out over this cheaply made, costume material dress. According to scientists, the difference between peoples’ perceptions of the color resides literally within the eye of the beholder. The balance of the rods and cones, components in the eyes that are responsible for color perception, in the eyes of the person looking at the dress are what determine which hues of the dress you see. So, did you see blue and black, white and gold, or periwinkle and bronze?
