Recently, news has surfaced about the town attempting to evict the Police Athletic League (PAL) from their building on 1 PAL Drive. According to the town council, the PAL is significantly behind on their lease payments and has taken no action to fix this, which led to their decision to evict.
Controversy has arisen about the town’s decision, and the truth of their reasons behind it. The town claims that the PAL has taken very little action to pay off their debts. When approached with the issue, one council member said that it seemed like the PAL was stalling for time. According to the council, the payments the PAL had made, had come after the deadlines set by the town. Due to the late payments and the apparent inaction by the PAL to raise funds for their lease, the town moved towards eviction.
According to the PAL, however, they had been taking all possible actions to raise money to become up to date on their debts. They stated that the town had unfairly halted negotiations and started forcing them to evict. On their site was a petition calling for support from the community, and giving reasons why the town’s treatment of them was unfair, as well as possible reasons for the town’s choice to evict them. They cited the poor state of the Hillcrest Building, and the town’s need for a replacement. The statement was inexplicably taken off of the PAL website after a recent meeting, meaning that it’s possible some kind of conclusion was met.
The PAL is still fighting the town for the building, and is currently running fairly unhindered. It’s hard to say if the PAL is staying or going in the long run, but they’re sure to run on for as long as they can.
