On May 6, 2013, the rock band Fall Out Boy released “Save Rock and Roll,” their first album released since their three-year hiatus. Many hits rose from this album such as “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark,” “Young Volcanoes,” and “Alone Together.” Now the second CD is out, and it is just as amazing. “American Beauty/American Psycho” already had five popular songs before its official release, and the rest of the tracks are also great.
The album has more of a fun feeling than “Save Rock and Roll.” Some songs like “American Beauty/American Psycho” and “Uma Thurman” use a similar beat and sound but still vary in lyrics and meanings. “Twin Skeletons” has a deeper feeling with dramatic music and chilling lyrics. “The Kids Aren’t Alright” is emotional and causes the listener to reflect on certain aspects of life. “Centuries” was the first single released off the album and is probably the most well known from the CD. It has a powerful feeling and the video reflects this. The men are in the Roman Coliseum as gladiators. “Immortals” was used in the Disney movie “Big Hero 6”, and is also on this new album.
Personally, my favorite songs are “Novocaine” and “Twin Skeletons.” Some songs are overplayed, but I have not heard these songs on the radio yet. “Novacaine” is more rock than prior Fall Out Boy songs. My favorite line from the song is, “If you knew what the blue bird sang, you would never sing along.” The song complains about how someone just doesn’t care about their relationship, or past one, anymore. “Twin Skeletons” has a captivating sound, but the lyrics are lacking a bit. The sound is very unique compared to other songs.
I recommend this album because it is considerably different than past albums the band has released. I still personally like “Save Rock and Roll” better, but “American Beauty/American Psycho” has its perks too.
