I’ll have one less problem when she stops acting like a 12-year-old.
That’s right; I just used her own song to call her out. Ariana Grande has been a symbol of pop stars since her first album, “Yours Truly,” debuted in the summer of 2013. The 21-year-old has not yet embraced her age – or realized that she is not 12 anymore.
Before you get in a tizzy, I do like her music. Her voice is incredible and she is extremely talented. Her songs are catchy and usually are family-friendly. As a person she is an overall good person as far as I know, since she has not been in the news for any scandals. This article is about her sexualizing herself. Kids know her from her Nickelodeon days from “Victorious” and “Sam and Cat.” The superstar is trying to be someone she is not, like a younger Madonna wanna-be, or Britney Spears impersonator.
Her voice, as great as it, is very squeaky and hard to understand. In her latest song, “All My Love,” I cannot hear the “my” in the chorus. It sounds like, “All love up on the mountain top.” I don’t know if it is because her diction and pronunciation are bad, or her voice is just so high pitched that it is impossible to differentiate words. This also happens in one of her first big hits, “Problem.” It is obvious that she can sing but she cannot enunciate.
The only thing worse than her squeaking – I mean singing – is her acting. With the same part of Sam on both major shows, it made Grande look as dumb as the character she played. This was a poor decision on her part for taking the part which made her appear delinquent. That being said, she probably had very little to do with the actual script, so it is not all her fault.
Ariana Grande is a favorite singer among teenagers and her peers. As she is maturing, her songs are becoming more and more sexual. “Bang Bang” featuring Nicki Minaj and Jessie J was the hit of the summer. Since then, she released “Love Me Harder” with up and coming rapper, The Weeknd. The word “love” could honestly easily be replaced with another word which changes the meaning of the song completely. If she would just stick to her original songs like “Problem” and “The Way,” she would be receiving much less criticism.
