Since the summer, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has been making headlines all over the globe. The reason for the disturbance is the infamous decapitations of innocent people from many countries.
ISIS itself started as an al Queda splinter group. The goal of the organization is to create an Islamic state across Sunni areas of Iraq and Syria. This group has taken a radical approach to do so. Known for their public executions and more specially decapitations, this organization has caused nations all over the world to fear them. Many of these exhibitions are taking place in northern and western Iraq, but it has control of hundreds of square miles of the country.
The news started in May of 2014, when more than 140 students from Syria were kidnapped by ISIS and were taught radical Islamic ways. On August 19, the first beheading was announced. American James Foley, who was missing for years, was recorded as his head was severed from his body. The next victim was another American, journalist Steven Sotloff. The third victim was a British man, David Haines. At the end of this video, the executioner threatened the life of another captive, Alan Henning. Unfortunately, the killer kept his word, making Henning the final victim so far as of October 3.
In order to combat this, President Obama has ordered targeted airstrikes. These airstrikes will also prevent mass genocides that ISIS may be planning of minorities and people who defy the ISIS beliefs. The first airstrike was done in August in Raqqa, a Syrian city which is believed to be the headquarters of ISIS. Currently there are no more attacks planned or released, and there have not been more decapitation videos.
