The gymnastics program is very popular here in West Milford, featuring more than forty girls and guys on the team. The legacy of the varsity team continues, and moving up a division does not seem to be effecting the team negatively – they just keep winning.
Kristen Hughes, Samantha Barrere, and Julia Leybin were the captains that bragged about the team. “Last year’s senior class was really strong, it was almost like we didn’t know what we would do when they graduated,” Barrere explained. “A lot of people stepped up this year to fill their shoes, and we’re 5-0 right now, so now it’s really a team effort.” The girls explained how there was not really one person who stood out on the team, and they are proud of everyone for their hard work and dedication. The all-arounders were highlighted especially. Barrere explained again, “Everyone is really contributing this year.”
The girls admitted to loving the fans that come out and support them. “We all love the team support as a whole, because it’s an individual sport at the same time,” Hughes clarified. “Only five girls compete at an event so it’s great having the whole team come and support them.” Everyone on the team appreciates the Herd coming to motivate the girls. Parents are also always cheerful and appreciated as well.
The gymnastics team has had an incredible season thus far, and will continue to dominate their new division.
