Prom is usually a night students look back on with fond memories. Full of getting dressed up, dancing, and spending time with friends, prom is a night many teens do not want to end. However, this night to remember turned tragic when seventeen-year-old Jacqueline Gomez was found dead in Houston, Texas after her senior prom.
Gomez and her date, whose name has not been released, had spent the night at the Hyatt North Houston Hotel when their prom ended. Hotel guests report that they heard the couple partying during the night. However, when hotel guest Kyren Block knocked on their door, no one answered. The next morning, Gomez’s boyfriend woke up to find her dead next to him.
“I woke up. I tried waking her but she wouldn’t,” Gomez’s boyfriend stated, “I was screaming and crying, telling her to wake up. But she didn’t.”
Investigators do not think that the boyfriend had any involvement in Gomez’s death. Instead, there is reason to believe that Gomez’s cause of death was an overdose. Gomez’s boyfriend admitted to police that the two drank some alcohol that night. He also mentioned in a text message that Gomez had taken the painkiller Hydrocodone. A friend of Gomez commented that they felt Gomez was acting strangely at prom. She was “stuttering, not talking clear” and her eyes were “low, like she was dizzy.”
Police are still waiting for the autopsy report to come in before they can be truly sure that Gomez’s death can be attributed to an overdose.
