One of West Milford’s traditions was carried out on May 16, Teacher Turn Around Day. The students pair up with a teacher or former teacher and teach their classes.
The students and teachers received breakfast before they started their day. Some of the students and teachers decided to match their outfits. Some students walked around wearing the teacher badges. Students get to see first hand what it is like to be a high school teacher. Students would teach their teacher’s normal classes. Students even got the chance to see what teachers talk about during lunch.
Some of the students took on bigger roles, like Nicole Heuer and Matt Kelly who were Mr. Gorski. Samantha Stafford policed everyone with Mr. Pollaro. Giving some guidance with Mrs. Morris was Megan Gwynn.
After talking to Ms. Signorelli and Gina Oriolo, I got a different perspective of Teacher Turn Around Day. I asked Gina how she and Ms.Sig worked together, “Sig and I worked well together by her doing one thing and me doing another.”
I asked, what did you think about Teacher Turn Around Day? “It was a great experience to see what teachers do Monday through Friday.”
Then I talked to Ms.Signorelli. How doyou feel about someone shadowing you all day? “Sometimes the thought of being shadowed all day can be daunting, but this year with Gina it went smoothly.”
I asked, do you think students learn what teachers do all day? “Students can see how it is to be a teacher and prepare, but it can be a day to hang out which really isn’t a typical day”
Teacher Turn Around Day is a day looked forward to by many seniors. Teacher Turn Around Day was a successful day all around!
