The first game of the Passaic County Tournament for boys lacrosse was on May 5. West Milford and Wayne Valley played each other to decipher who would qualify for the next game.
The game opened with a goal by Wayne Valley. Jared Calise retaliated, and supplied the first Highlander goal. After this, the Indians also gained another point. Charlie Cole scored the second goal for West Milford, but the quarter ended with another goal by the Indians.
When Kyle Little took over in goal, TJ Dionisio and Dylan Walko tried to help him guard the goal. Three Wayne Valley goals were added, but Dylan Pirro added one more for West Milford with an assist by Corey Curran.
The third quarter was when the frustration was starting to become evident. When a fight almost broke out between a West Milford and Wayne Valley player, both were called with an unnecessary roughness penalty. Throughout all of this, the Indians scored twice.
The concluding quarter was opened with the final Highlander goal, scored by Kyle Butera. To end the game, the Indians supplied three more goals. Because of the loss, the Highlanders were disqualified from the tournament, but that does not mean the season is over. The rest of the regular season is underway, so the Highlanders are dedicating to redeeming themselves.
After two losses in a row, the Highlanders redeemed themselves with an 15-8 win over Vernon.
The first quarter was controlled by West Milford. Jared Calise had two goals, with one assisted by Corey Curran, and one unassisted. Zach Haid supplied the final Highlander goal, but the quarter ended with a Vernon goal.
Curran gave West Milford three more points in the next quarter. Vernon only gained one point, but Curran got his final goal within the last 10 seconds of the quarter.
The third quarter started with a Vernon goal. This wasn’t a very active quarter, because only two goals were scored. Charlie Cole earned the final goal.
The final quarter was a very aggressive and intense one. The Highlanders had eight goals, and Vernon had five towards the end. Anthony Pellegrino started the scoring, then Haid followed. Noah Provenzano scored next, with an assist from Kyle Butera. Then, Provenzano had the assist and Mark Hendry scored. Cole gained another goal, then Butera succeeded in securing the next point. Curran also obtained another goal, and then Nick Dionisio finished the pattern. After a brief running clock, Vernon almost had a comeback and collected five more goals. The Highlanders were very enthusiastic about the win, so the previous losses will not continue to bother the boys.
