There aren’t many teachers that love teaching and adore every single one of their students, but here at West Milford High School we have quite a few teachers like Ms.Schwartz, a child development and culinary teacher here.
Ms. Schwartz is loved by all her students, so I had to find out more about this devoted, compassionate teacher. Junior Lanae Vroegindewey, mentioned how “Ms. Schwartz really connects with her students and I look forward to going to her class.”
Education wise Ms. Schwartz attended high school in Central Valley, NY and attended SUNY Oneonta earning her Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science Education. Ms.Schwartz was a smarty pants in college, being a member of the SUNY Oneonta honor society. After a few months graduating college Ms. Schwartz got a job here at the high school and has not looked back since.
Now the clique question that always seems to be asked: Did you always want to be a teacher? Well the answer was yes. Ms.Schwartz has always wanted to be a teacher. Ms. Schwartz stated, “My parents are teachers and my siblings are teachers and my grandparents were so it’s in my blood.” Although Ms. Schwartz doesn’t live in West Milford and has to commute about 40 minutes each day, she still manages to come to work happy and humorous, teaching her best.
Aside from teaching child development and culinary arts, she also runs the preschool here at the high school which she adores, since all her students start to become her family.
Ms.Schwartz also has a lot of interest in running a club for girls in the near future. Ms. Schwartz really tries to emphasize the fact that girls and women in general should not be such harsh critics of themselves and others, accept yourself and move on…” We are all beautiful,” Ms. Schwartz said.
At the moment Ms.Schwartz is taking online courses to get her masters in curriculum development and instructional technology to be able to create her whole curriculum and also to learn different learning techniques using various types of technologic devices.
Since Ms. Schwartz has experienced high school and all the things that it entails, I asked her if she had any advice for us students here at the high school. She replied by saying how,” The most important thing to remember is to not be so harsh on yourself and just accept your flaws and insecurities, because once you do so you become happy with yourself and nobody can bother you anymore,” Besides she stated smiling,” It gets a lot better after high school so don’t sweat it!”
Ms. Schwartz has also had a crazy experience when she got into a car accident in 10th grade and was ejected out of the car and landed into a ditch! But don’t worry, Ms.Schwartz ended up having no scratches or anything, thank god because then she would not have been able to teach here!
Ms. Schwartz is a great teacher who truly loves to teach as well as create relationships with all her students, no wonder why students think she’s a great teacher! Oh and by the way Ms. Schwartz loves nice long walks on the beach, hikes into the Appalachian mountains, loves her cat Harley, and her favorite color’s pink… but sorry fellows Ms. Schwartz is off the market since she recently just got engaged! Go visit this great teacher and maybe even check out the big rock on her finger!
