Every year West Milford High School holds an annual Cablethon which helps raise money for project graduation. The Cablethon is an event where the High School turns the cafeteria into a TV set. The event consists of interviews with captains of sports team, club participants, seniors, and even some alumni. Each year Cablevision comes to the High School and supplies Mr. Padilla and students with equipment to do the show, which then is done live and is broadcast on channel 77 for all local residents to watch.
The Cablethon has been going for many years now and has been going strong since Mr. Padilla arrived in 2006. The Cablethon is always a grueling process when it comes to transforming the cafeteria into a TV studio like set. The Cablethon takes about twenty hours to set up everything and it is all done in one weekend. When asked about how much on average the Cablethon raises for project graduation each year, Mr. Padilla said, “The Cablethon raises anywhere from $12,000 to $16,000 and this year we raised $14,285 pledged.” When asked about the most interesting thing that ever happened in all the years of doing the cablethon. Mr. Padilla said, “In 2012 the power went out during the last 10 minutes of the show.” He went on to say, “I want to thank the seniors for being awesome and good luck.”
All the money for project graduation can be sent in to Mrs. Gerish at the High School. They will not call asking for the money. All students, teachers, and everyone involved would like to thank those who donated and, would also like to thank cablevision for their support, equipment and contributions.
