After the Holocaust, the world said, “Never Again” to such atrocities. After the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, the world cried, “Never Again” to such atrocities. Since May 2014, escalating violence in the Central African Republic have made world humanitarians question, “Never Again?”
When France let go of control of the Central African Republic, Central African Republic was dropped into chaos. Since France pulled out in the 1960’s there was been many coup and even alleged election fraud. There has also been a lot of riots and looting. Illegal weapons have been a part of the dark history of this country. Some people have fled to Chad, a neighboring country. Since January 2014, a new problem has faced the CAR (the Central African Republic); the country has broken out into violence, pitting two groups against each other. The Seleka Rebels and the Anti-Balaka are the two groups that are causing a lot of the hostility. Between these groups there could be a genocide brewing. Religion is also a dividing line between Christians and Muslims. The Seleka rebels are mostly Muslims and Seleka is mostly Christian. CAR has Christian majority and a Muslims minority. The chaos started when Seleka rebels overthrew President Francois Bozize in 2013. The Seleka rebels started terrorizing CAR, so the French peacekeeping troops were sent in the protect the Central African people. While having check points to de-arm the Seleka rebels, another group was growing the Anti-Balaka militants. Anti-Balaka militants and Seleka rebels have been killing, wounding, raping and stealing almost EVERY day. The United Nations is providing blankets and tents to people in need. Doctor without Borders is there for medical needs. CAR is a country that’s crumbing before the world eyes. Will the world help put it back together?
