The West Milford Tennis team is loaded and ready to go. With the weather finally warm and the snow gone, the Boy’s Tennis team is ready to play. It is going to be a busy year for the team with 22 games scheduled; this is the most they have had in quite some time. The team is stacked with seniors. There are nine seniors on the team this season who are all hoping for a successful season. The seniors on the team include Patrick Kersen, Phil Leytes, Ethan Lipman, Jon Albar, Brandon Postlewaite, Cooper Harrison, Alex Partroski, Macky Ireland, and Dan Popoloski. With plenty of players it is easy to move around line ups, try different combinations, and in the event of an injury, someone is always ready to step up and fill in. The team hasn’t performed well to this point in the season with a 3-6 record, but with 15 games to go, there is still time for them to pick up the pace. With each week jam packed with games, there have been some conflicts where a player’s schedule for college visits, doctor’s appointments and so on have overlapped with the tennis schedule. Thus far, everyone has tried his hardest to make the matches and the team is definitely looking into changing around their personal schedules so they can make the matches.
Captain Brandon Postlewaite was asked about having so many seniors on the team, “It’s actually really exciting to have so many seniors on the team, especially since most of us started out as freshman and is amazing how much we all grew and developed more skills.” When addressing goals and expectations for this year’s team Postlewaite had to say, “As a team our goal coming into this tear was to have a winning record. We have trying our best and playing the best we ever have been.” When asked about being named co-captain Postlewaite said, “To me being co-captain shows I play a leadership role along with Jon Albar. It makes me feel good because I know that my team voted for me to become captain. It makes you want to be focused, determined, and mature, which is really hard with this group of great people.” Finally, I asked Postlewaite what was his favorite memory from tennis and he said, “There are so many funny memories from tennis. I think though one of my favorite was my freshman year. We were all messing around with our good friend Phil Leytes on the bus ride home from an away match. We were throwing his hat back and forth when all of a sudden someone threw it right out the window. We were all dying of laughter. It’s just fun having so much camaraderie with all my teammates and knowing that we can all joke around once in a while.”
