The Highlanders are continuing their winning streak, with a 3-0 record. Over the weekend, Paramus Catholic and High Point Regional fell short compared to West Milford.
The Highlanders beat Paramus Catholic by one point, with a 8-7 score. The first quarter consisted of two West Milford goals, then only one PC goal. At 7:23, Corey Curran assisted Charlie Cole in getting the opening goal of the game. Later in the quarter, Cole assisted junior Mark Henry for the second point. To conclude the quarter, the Paladins gained their first point.
The second quarter was a very competitive one. The Paladins began the scoring right away, but Nick Dionisio and Cole prevented the opposing team from taking the lead. Paramus Catholic quickly rebounded, and scored another goal. Again, West Milford reciprocated. The senior duo of Zach Haid and Kyle Butera worked together to get another point on the board for West Milford. The final goal was scored by the Paladins.
The third period was fairly calm, since only one goal was scored. Freshman Kyle Little took over in goal, and only let one goal in.
The final quarter of the game was all action. Corey Curran had an unassisted goal to open the period. Paramus Catholic tried very hard to take the lead, but it was impossible. The Paladins only scored twice this quarter, while the Highlanders gained four goals. It all came down to the final minute, but West Milford came out as the winner. The following JV game was also a success, with West Milford winning 10-0. Goals were scored by Brandon Little, Dan Cummings, Zack Starr, Ryan Nelson, Nick Gordy, and Drew Kagdis.
Two days later, High Point was the opponent. The final score was 12-2, with West Milford gaining the win. The first quarter consisted with three Highlander goals, and zero from High Point. Two goals were scored within the same minute. Corey Curran assisted Jared Calise for the first goal, and then Calise scored again almost thirty seconds later. The final goal of the quarter was scored by senior Kyle Butera.
The second quarter was again one which West Milford controlled. Charlie Cole scored twice, then Zach Haid assisted Curran for the final goal.
The third quarter was when High Point finally got on the board. This was an attempt to catch up, but Curran and Calise both scored another point each in this quarter.
After a very obvious West Milford win, it was time to finish the game with the final quarter. Four West Milford goals were scored, but only one High Point goal. Highlander goals were scored by Curran, Dan Cummings, Charlie Cole, and Anthony Pellegrino. The JV game was also an impressive win, with goals scored by Quinn Gridley, Drew Kagdis, Ryan Nelson, and Brandon Little.
On April 12, the Highlanders and Lancers faced off in lacrosse. Unfortunately, this was where West Milford suffered its first lost of the season.
The first quarter consisted of only one West Milford goal. Charlie Cole assisted Jared Calise to get the Higlanders on the board. The Lancers initiated the scoring, since they scored four times.
The second quarter was better, since the Highlanders scored goals more times than the Lancers. Nick Dionisio and Charlie Cole helped gain two more points, while Lakeland only increased by one.
In the next quarter, Lakeland scored the first three goals. Despite this, the defense did improve immensely. Kyle Little took over in goal, and the Highlander defense was ready to protect. This dedication was evident, because Lakeland only scored one more time that quarter.
The concluding quarter was similar to the first. Lakeland got a goal, then West Milford. Calise got the goal again, then Lakeland supplied two more goals, creating a final score of 12-4.
Luckily, the junior varsity team won over the rivals. During the first quarter, Zack Starr and Nick Gorny secured two points. The opposing Lancers only obtained one point.
The next quarter was more active, and very beneficial to West Milford. Lakeland did not score at all at this time, and the score grew by four points. Goals were scored by Drew Kagis, Zack Starr, and Dan Cummings.
The second half was controlled by West Milford. While five goals were scored by the Highlanders, only three were scored by the Lancers. Scoring players include Dan Cummings, Anthony Hanratty, Eugene Marchetto, and Nick Gordy. This was a successful game with a 10-4 score.
