This year’s golf team is looking to have a strong season after a solid finish last year. Many players are returning and among those players four of them are seniors. The seniors on this year’s team consist of Matthew Ziegenbalg, Billy Masterpole, Connor McCall, and Chris McCormick. Of those four, Masterpole, McCall and McCormick are this year’s team captains. McCormick had an amazing season last year and is looking improve once again. McCormick won league, county and sectional titles last year and also made second team all state.
When asked about his personal goals for this season McCormick said, “My personal goals are to defend my titles (counties, sectionals, and conference) and play better in the state tournament and possibly put myself in position to finish at the top.” When talking about the teams overall expectations McCormick said, “The team has the ability to win counties and conference we just all (especially including myself) need to play to our ability.”
For most sports some rivalries will heat up and especially when you have played the same players for three to four years, but McCormick thinks in a much more positive way, “There are no rivals in golf. You make a lot of friends out there. We just as a team need to execute and take home a title this year.”
The last thing I asked McCormick was what his favorite memory was after four years of golf. “My favorite memory was last year when in 5 days I won the Big North Conference, Passaic County Championship and Sectional Group 3 North Jersey title. I also believe I was ranked top ten in New Jersey too.”
The team has begun preparing for what they hope will be a special season and are looking forward to upcoming matches in the weeks ahead.
