The honor society students from the international language classes at West Milford High School hosted their 20th International Dinner Event on Tues., Feb. 25.
International honor society students from the Italian, German, French and Spanish classes gathered in the high school cafeteria on that chilly night where they shared their native dishes with local senior citizens.
The dinner was organized by the international language teachers, Signora Vincenza Certosimo (Italian), Frau Karen Johnson (German), Señor Leonel Andrade (Spanish), and Madame Cathy Schoppe (French), who all worked feverishly to pull off this cultural evening.
The night was a huge success, as over 100 guests showed up for an evening of dinner and a show. An $8 ticket admitted the senior citizens to experience a night of international cuisine followed by a performance of “Peter Pan” by the high school players. During the dinner, music was played by the Kerssen Family Band with Kayleigh Bennett on vocals.
Some of the most popular dishes were potatoes au gratin, ratatouille, and chicken coq au vin from the French, spaetzle, goulash, and red cabbage from the Germans, empanadas, and quesadillas from the Spanish, and chicken parmesan, penne vodka, and lasagna from the Italians.
The evening was a huge hit and many thanks go out to those involved in bringing these groups together. The students had a great time sharing their language’s cultures with each other as well as their guests.
