This is just one example of a promposal. A promposal has grown in popularity over the last few years, and is the way a guy usually asks a girl to prom. A girl can ask a guy to prom, but usually the male to female promposal is advertised more. While finding the dress is fun, what the girl really looks forward to most is seeing how her boyfriend (or friend) will ask her to the elegant dance.
Some promposals are very elaborate and require a team effort. On Tumblr, there are many examples of a sports team holding up signs to help a teammate. This could go wrong though, because that could be the one game the girl happens to miss. There is one location a girl will eventually go to no matter what – her locker. A cute example is when a guy writes “Prom?” on hundreds of ping-pong balls, then puts them in a girl’s locker. When she opens it, she gets asked to prom hundreds of times in one second. This could be difficult though, because getting a locker combination is not always the easiest thing. Some local students thought it would be fun to sabotage a junior’s promposal. Someone put “Prom?” in sticky notes on his potential date’s locker. People thought it would be funny to rearrange the letters to an inappropriate word. Apparently the girl saw the original message, but the person asking her was not very amused by the prank.
If you are a simple, shy guy, there are solutions. Sometimes, a simple sign is all that’s needed to impress a girl. If you are artistic and know where the object of your affection lives, it is cute if the girl comes home to “Prom?” written on her driveway in sidewalk chalk. Just make sure the weather is good that week, because the last thing you want is the girl seeing a chalk rainbow flooding her driveway. Have a class with that special person? Pass a note to her with check “yes” or “no” boxes! It’s so simple to write on a spare page of notebook paper, and if you are shy this is very convenient. It’s still flattering to the person being asked, and it is a classic way to do it.
It is said that the way to a man’s heart is through food – it can be reciprocated. Girls love food as well. If you know a girl loves pizza, request to have a special pizza made in a heart shape. Or, get a normal pizza and write “Will you go to prom with me? Eat this pizza if yes” on the box. Are you a baker? Pretzels are the perfect snack for anyone. If you can shape a pretzel into letters, try that. Maybe if you aren’t talented in the kitchen, ask Auntie Anne’s or another baker if they can make a special pretzel. If your special someone has a sweet tooth, cakes, cupcakes, and cookies are hard mess up. Classic examples include having a letter on every cupcake, writing the whole word on a cake, or spelling “Prom?” with chocolate chips.
Prom is right around the corner, so it’s time to start saving your money and using your imagination. Yes, it could just be a simple text, or flowers with a little note, but if you actually want your date to remember you in five years, do something original.
