Decorating the house for the holidays can be quite a stressful task for some individuals. Boxes containing miniature Santa’s and reindeer figurines are brought down from the attic or up from the basement. Strings of lights by the bundle must be checked for any defects and strung upon the roof. Wreaths and ribbons, bows and mistletoe… the list seems endless.
But, despite these daunting tasks, there are people who enjoy decorating and take it to an extreme. These “extreme decorators” go all out in their decorating; covering every inch of their house with lights, creating a display that would put Clark Griswold to shame.
For instance, the Hyatt family of Fort Lauderdale, Florida prides themselves on creating spectacular holiday displays that get bigger and brighter every year. The family runs their own blog (http://hyattextremechristmas.wordpress.com/), informing fans of times they can come for a tour of the displays. Visitors can observe the 20 foot tall Ferris wheel and the Hyatt’s “Mega Christmas Tree,” which has 12,700 lights on it. The blog features pictures and videos of the spectacular decorating the Hyatt family does to their house every year.
Another website which displays various extreme house decorations is www.griswoldhome.com. The creator of the website, ‘Sparky,’ posts pictures and videos of his annual holiday light and the public is free to post photos of their own extreme displays.
In San Francisco, California, Tom Taylor and Jerome “Jerry” Goldstein decorate a 50 foot tall pine tree in their yard every year during the holiday season. This decorating duo also hangs two giant stockings, one labeled “Tom” and the other labeled “Jerry,” from their garage as well. “Santa” is also known to make a special guest appearance at Tom and Jerry’s house every year. Children big and small can journey to their house and meet the jolly man in person so long as they are willing to make a trek up the large hill Tom and Jerry’s home is situated on.
Whether you enjoy decorating your house every year or find it to be a stressful task, it is always a rewarding experience to take a step back and admire the work you accomplished. But if decorating is really not for you, a drive around town will give you the stress-free chance to enjoy the holiday spirit shared by others.
