Before West Milford Football’s game against Tenafly on Nov. 1 the school held a tailgate event in the Senior parking lot. The tailgate began at five o’clock and continued until about seven o’clock.
While the students played games in the senior parking lot, a teacher had parked his truck close to where the teachers, principals and supervisors were cooking the food, and played music for everyone. Teachers supplied water, snacks, and of course what would a tailgate be without burgers and hot dogs.
There were multiple teachers there mingling with students and discussing life inside and outside of school. Students played games like Kan Jam and Bean Bag Toss. There must have been at least thirty students there as well as many teachers coming and going as they pleased.
I asked some students what they thought of the tailgate and what their favorite part of the tailgate was? Connor McCall said, “It was fun! I enjoyed the games they had. Dillon and I played corn hole for a while.” Conrad Antona said, “The best part was the free food and being with friends. I thought it stunk that there weren’t more people there.”
Last year’s tailgate was canceled due to rain, and this year even though it was rescheduled once, it was still a success due to excellent promotion and perfect weather.
As for the Football team, they must have been pumped for the game. The Highlanders started off winning the first quarter 21 to 0. Entering the fourth quarter it looked like the Highlanders had the game in the bag with a 35 to 7 lead. They would end the game at a slow pace, not scoring any points. As for Tenafly, they would make one last push scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough as the Highlanders went on to win by a final score of 35 to 20, increasing their total wins to 2 on the season. The game and the tailgate were a great way to end the week.
