For many, the day after Thanksgiving is a time to recuperate from the dreaded ‘turkey comas’ obtained the day before. It’s the perfect day to sleep in and enjoy a day off from school or work. But, there are some individuals who are awake well before the sun rises, searching for great deals and getting a jump start on holiday shopping. Whether you have done Black Friday shopping for years, or plan on attempting it for your first time, here are some tips and tricks to become a successful shopper.
First and foremost, be careful when going Black Friday shopping! It may seem silly for someone to say this considering that one is simply shopping on Friday. However, it has been reported that, due to Black Friday related incidents, seven people have been killed and ninety people have been injured. Whether it be falling asleep behind the wheel of a car or being pepper sprayed, one must be conscious of the dangers that can result from Black Friday zeal.
Another helpful trick is to plan out what stores you wish to go to and which stores have the best prices for items you are looking for. Apps such as PriceGrabber can allow you to compare prices between multiple stores. Be on the lookout for coupons and circulars for stores you plan on going to as well. Target, for instance, comes out with a coupon book every year before Black Friday which contains coupons for items such as toys and games.
Also make sure to wear comfortable shoes when going Black Friday shopping. You will have to do a lot of walking and do not want to have aching feet during your shopping.
Finally, if you decide to show up before the store opens, be sure to dress in layers. Lines of eager shoppers may be long, but the wait just might be worth the bargains.
