In early September, Malcolm Ireland and Justin Lombardo took a short ride over to the newly opened eating establishment called “The Highlander Deli and Grill”. Upon arrival we were met with a small parking lot shared with the business next door. The deli also had limited seating outdoors consisting of a few wooden benches and absolutely no room inside to sit. When we walked in though, we were greeted by extremely nice employees with great people skills ready to serve us. To read about our conversation with the owner and see what the Deli and Grill is all about, find our other article “Stop on in,” also in this edition.
It was suggested that Malcolm and I order a breakfast sandwich called “The Highlander” one of the many sandwiches off the list of over 20 choices. This sandwich costs $6.25 and consists of Taylor ham, bacon, sausage, ham, potato, egg, and cheese on a sub.
This sandwich was truly a meat lovers dream. If you are a true Highlander, you will be fully satisfied with this sandwich. I particularly would not have ordered this type of sandwich heavy with grilled meat, but overall the sandwich was filling and worth the price. If this doesn’t sound that appealing to you, the deli offers dozens of other sandwiches and combinations including the “Athlete”, a fit and trim sandwich for ½ the price consisting of egg whites, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and cheese, on, you guessed it, whole wheat toast. Our very own Mr. Gorski even has a sandwich at the deli, named “Gorski’s Fried Chicken Cutlet”. The description is a fried chicken cutlet topped with lettuce, tomato, and mayo and served on a round roll for only $5.95. The deli also can double as a convenience store since it also sells milk, ice, drinks, and many canned foods and paper goods. The deli is staffed with friendly employees and is excited to get new Highlanders into the deli the every day. Go and check them out at 717 Otterhole Road in West Milford today, and pick whatever strikes your fancy.
