As students return to school this year, they were pleased with the wider variety of courses from which they had been able to choose. The selection of classes has now expanded even further here at West Milford High School. This year, along with the traditional world language classes, Spanish, Italian, French, and German, there are two new online courses being offered, “Latin I” and “Mandarin Chinese”. These classes are for students who excelled in previous World Language courses and who want the opportunity to learn about new languages and cultures. These online courses are interactive self-paced which focus on basic reading, writing, and speaking abilities. Students in their junior or senior year will be able to learn these languages in a computer lab one period a day, and each of these classes lasts a full year.
In the Family and Consumer Science Department, a new class called “Food, Nutrition, and You” is being offered as a half year course for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Here the class will cover subjects such as healthy eating habits, weight, and eating disorders. This class will be very helpful for the student who wishes to go to college to be a nutritionist, physical trainer or a physical education teacher in the future.
And for those interested in performing on stage, there is now “Theater Arts” class being offered as a Performing Arts class. Here students will learn about various aspects of theater, which includes directing, acting, costume design, and backstage work. It is a full year course and counts for five credits. The guidance department is always looking for ways to expand the school’s offerings to maintain a challenging and diverse curriculum. Signum mane!
