Meet the team
The West Milford JV Field Hockey team is a small group of wonderful people. The Juniors on the team are Lauren Ferraro, Julia Redl, and Sydney Boratto; they are also the team leaders. The rest of the team consists of sophomores: Dani Rodas, Paige Roberts, Melanie Dowling, Aly Roskowsky, Jaclyn Sabjan, Mackenzie Browne, Christine Quigley, Gillian Grahame, Allison Koch, Andrea Hilario, Miranda Sudol, and Emily Magasic. The team also fields transitional players, Casey Butera, Laura Freedman, Bianca Cano, and Maeve Gordon, who play for both JV and Varsity. The team is coached by Ms. Lugerner.
Team Bond
As a team that consists of different grade levels, the JV has team bonding down to a science. When one person is having fun, everybody is having fun. The players consider themselves to be part of one big, dysfunctional family, whether it be all the inside jokes, the cute little bow, or even just being around one another. This team is not about individuals; everything is a joint effort. The girls win together or lose together. Without this team bond, there would simply be a bunch of great individual players, but individuals cannot be successful on their own. The JV field Hockey team members understand this.
Team Record
JV Field Hockey currently has a win-loss-tie record of 4-1-1. As a team, the girls hate losing, so they give it their all in the games. They always try to bring what they have learned in practice into the games. Coach Lugerner has stressed to the team that it is important for each player to reflect on how she plays after each game. Without this reflection, the team will not improve in terms of skills or success.
Coaches Perspective
Lugerner shared the inside scoop on the team. “I’m very proud of how well the JV team is transitioning this year. Currently they are 4-1-1. The team includes a mixture of three different grade levels which usually generates a struggle. These girls have molded together extremely well which shows on and off the field. Moving forward, I’m hopeful that they will continue to grow as individuals and as a field hockey team who prepares for varsity level competition.”
