One of the best sandwiches that I have had at Vreeland Store and Inn is their homemade turkey avocado sub. The sandwich was hot when it reached me at my table. The first mouth full was perfect; I got a little bit of everything. The bread was held up against the smooth avocado and the juicy turkey. There was a subtle heat from the chipotle mayo layer on the bread. Every ounce of flavor was balanced; everything worked in harmony. No flavors were trying to compete with the others. I was also able to sample a few snacks after the interview.
The first thing I tried was the Death by Chocolate, which is was a chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing with mini chocolate chips on top. The cupcake itself was soft and moist, while the icing of the cupcake was creamy and a little crunchy because of the mini chocolate chips. That cupcake was a chocolate lover’s heaven and would be the perfect remedy after a nasty break up.
The second thing I had was a scallion and cheese scone which was more on the savory side. The outside of the scone was golden brown with hints of green from the scallion. When biting into the scone it was chewy with a sweet undertone from the cheese.
The last snack I had from Vreeland was a dessert tart. The bottom was a pie crust filled with a chocolate mousse with a maple syrup whipped cream on top; I totally saved the best for last. The dessert tart had a little bit of everything. The chocolate mousse was bold but it was cut down by the maple syrup plus the whipped topping made it fluffy. The tart was a nice base, adding some texture to the overall soft tart.
Everything at Vreeland is simple and good and you would be pleased with anything you choose from their menu.
