Fall is upon West Milford once again this year and while many think of the new school year and Halloween, there is the Autumn Lights Festival to look forward to as well. Held on October 12th this year, several thousand people from all over Northern New Jersey came to join in on the festivities during the all day event. Along Union Valley Road vendors of numerous products lined the streets and there was something for people of all ages and interests to enjoy at the annual street fair. As the festival grows in popularity each year, many students from WestMilfordHigh School come to hang out with their friends and to join in the festivities.
Local bands played all day at different locations along Union Valley Road, and the crowds that watched really enjoyed the musicians that had come out to play. At Mr. Wonton’s, dance companies from studios in the area came and put on a great performance for the onlookers. The West Milford Dance Team did a great routine, with all the girls from the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Peewee Teams dancing together.
Kids had a fun time at the fair, although they sometimes had a little too much fun with the silly string. There were plenty of toys for sale, everything from cute stuffed animals to electronic gizmos. Over at PinecliffLake, there was a mini amusement park set up. Kids tried their luck with the raging bull in the arena and had so much fun in the bouncy house. Nearby, the antique cars were on display for vintage car fanatics to admire. Various sports teams and clubs raised money for their activities, selling everything from chocolate to sweatshirts to key chains. There were several jewelry vendors, selling ornamental necklaces and earrings, and simple things as well.
When the fair comes around again next year, West Milford is expecting an even larger number of people to attend. So come and join in the fun with your friends at next year’s festival.
