The students of Mrs. De Angelis’ class have continually provided their services to Milford Manor Nursing Home. Students work to make items or purchase decorations, finding ways to contribute to seasonal events. When asked about how these frequent donations to the nursing home benefit her students, Mrs. De Angelis said, “I think that it makes everyone feel good when they do something for someone else, don’t you?”
The students also visited Milford Manor Nursing Home around Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. During Halloween the students brought the residents jack-o-lanterns, during Thanksgiving the students went to the nursing home to decorate meal trays of the residents. Also, during the Christmas season they made felt poinsettia napkin rings and again decorated the meal trays of the residents.
Recently, around St. Patrick’s Day, Mrs. De Angelis’ class continued their generous services. They donated 120 shamrock plants, decorated with ribbons. The idea behind shamrock plants was to brighten up the ending of a long winter, and a lively transition into spring. These plants were to be placed at the bedside of the residents.
The students who take part in these projects actively participate in deciding what to donate. From start to finish these students complete these projects independently, with little need of guidance from Mrs. De Angelis.
“The goal of all these projects has always been to simply do something kind for someone else and the recipients have always been gracious.” These ongoing projects that Mrs. De Angelis’ class generously participates in bring happiness to the residents of Milford Manor Nursing Home throughout the school year.
