It has been a topic of controversy for years – is it harder being a guy or a girl? Is it worse having to wait in line for the bathroom, or to get rejected by a girl?
Being a girl is a challenge. Periods make even the sweetest, quietest girls turn nutty. There are extreme cramps and unpredictable mood swings. It does not get any better during pregnancy. Once someone gains all that baby weight, it is incredibly hard to get off. Speaking of bodily images, this is one of the most common problems girls have. Every morning, girls apply layers and layers of makeup to feel pretty. Sometimes, it gets so extreme that a person is unrecognizable. It is sad that society has pushed the meaning of beauty to this extreme.
On the other hand, there are surprisingly many problems males face. Andrew Castellucio, a sophomore, stated that dealing with women was a problem. Other problems listed were higher car insurance rates, and the amount of competition in sports. When it comes to health, prostate cancer is an issue for which all males should be on alert. Relationships were also a topic. Sean Hall believes girls should be understanding that guys get nervous, too. Asking out a girl is not as easy as it seems. Rejection is a possibility, which also worries some young men.
Matt Smith, a senior from Red Bank Catholic, said fights among guys are usually resolved easily. Girls are infamous for their jealousy and ability to hold grudges for long periods of time.
There was one thing that both genders agreed on. Andrew Castellucio also stated, “It’s hard dealing with women.” Kelsey Ross, also a sophomore, said “Dealing with men is hard.” It seems as if both genders agree to disagree.
Anatomically, girls have more of the trouble. Girls are more fanatical about relationships, but guys also get nervous. Girls were also honest when it came to society’s standards of “beauty” these days. Spending an hour on hair and make up is ridiculous. The guys that were interviewed for this article opened up, and showed a more realistic, honest side. Guys do have the benefit of not needing to dress up and look artificial almost every day. It is a debate that has been going on for centuries, but it really is harder being a girl.
